Non-Timber Income Senior Business Development Manager

Job Description:

  • Develop non-timber income streams across a multi-generational forestland ownership.
  • Evaluate and implement a variety of projects: hunting and recreation, carbon, renewable energy, aggregate operations, minor forest products, communications tower and log export businesses.
  • Take a continuous improvement approach to existing business management systems.
  • Operate independently on non-timber opportunities from start-to-finish.  Include setting up systems for tracking payments, lease renewals, communication etc.

General Responsibilities:

  • Build upon existing systems to streamline administrative resources on all non-timber projects. Develop a non-timber program that is efficient and profitable for the business.
  • Research, vet, and develop new business opportunities.
  • Set up systems to manage people/places/projects.
  • Do field visits/meetings with potential partners.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • BS in Forestry, Business, Finance or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in forestry, land management, or similar.
  • 3+ years in non-timber income or land related business development.
  • A proven track record of developing and executing new business models.
  • Strong conflict management skills.
  • Motivated self-started.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years experience in forestry, land management, or similar field.
  • 5+ years in Northeast forest systems.
  • Experience in developing hunting and recreation programs.
  • Public affairs/relations.
  • ArcGIS Pro/QGIS.

Structure and Compensation:

  • Full time.
  • Position will report to Managing Forester and the Board of Directors.
  • Competitive salary starting at $75k + benefits.
  • Hybrid structure:  minimum 3 days per week in the office.

Summer Forestry Technician – Position has been filled

Meadowsend is seeking a forestry technician to join our team for the summer. The position is a full-time, temporary, 12-week summer work experience that will offer a qualified candidate a unique opportunity to work in the field of forestry. Forestry technicians support our four field foresters on a diverse set of projects. Technicians will assist with boundary line maintenance, forest inventory and resource assessment, forest management planning, active forest stewardship projects (timber sale layout and wildlife management projects), timber stand improvement, recreational trail development, GIS mapping, brook trout habitat enhancement projects, and much more. The majority of the work (~80%) will be conducted in Northern Vermont with the remaining project work being conducted in New Hampshire and southern VT. The forestry technician will primarily be working within an 1-2 hour driving radius from Washington, VT. 

Meadowsend is seeking a motivated individual who is looking to gain experience in the field of forestry and natural resource management. Strong candidates will: 

  • Have the ability to work in variable weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks (i.e., hiking in rugged terrain, carrying heavy loads, using hand tools, and potentially operating a chainsaw and other power tools). 
  • Have the ability to be a self-starter, work independently, and navigate in the field using GPS, map, and compass. 
  • Have experience in the field of forestry, natural resource assessment, and environmental data collection. Candidates will have a confidence in identifying common tree species, and some prior experience or exposure to the field of forestry and forest management. 
  • Have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, vehicle insurance, and an ability to independently travel throughout VT and NH.
